Sheila Frick, OTR/L
Sheila M. Frick, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist with over 45 years in practice in various settings including schools, home, and clinic-based practice. Throughout her career, Sheila considers herself a lifelong learner driven in the pursuit of melding sensory integrative theory, development, and practice-based evidence to inform her teaching and clinical practice. Sheila has taught a wide variety of continuing education courses for more than 35 years on topics related to sensory processing and integration, with a special emphasis on the sensorimotor contributions of the inner ear. She lectures across the globe with frequent travel to Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa, India, and Hong Kong.
One of Sheila’s most widely recognized career achievements has been her extensive training in a broad variety of auditory interventions, which influenced her pioneering work blending sound into occupational therapy clinical practice. In her teaching and clinical practice, Sheila illuminates the multifaceted nature of working with therapeutic auditory interventions. Sheila recognizes the importance of understanding the unique elements of music, the manner in which sound patterns are electronically altered, and how to match these unique aspects of sound therapeutically. It is Sheila’s experience that when a therapist understands all these unique elements, they are then able to provide the most individualized auditory-based treatments for their clients.
Sheila has authored several informative books and manuals, including Listening with the Whole Body: Clinical Concepts and Treatment Guidelines for Therapeutic Listening®, and a co-author of Astronaut Training: A Sound Activated Vestibular-Visual Protocol; and M.O.R.E.: Integrating the Mouth with Sensory and Postural Functions. She is trained in Ayres Sensory Integration™ and certified in the Sensory Integration Praxis Test. Furthermore, Sheila has completed training in neurodevelopmental treatment.
