What do we mean by healing trauma?

Trauma disrupts our integrative functioning, negatively impacting our emotional lives and core beliefs about ourselves, humanity, and the world around us. As a result, we are often faced with the non-integrative states of chaos and rigidity that make feeling joy and peace within ourselves challenging. We have difficulty in mutually rewarding relationships with others, and even to our inner sense of who we are when in chaotic or rigid states. When such a traumatic experience is unresolved, it includes a frequent state of dysregulation in which we move into chaos or rigidity and often live far from a central flow of harmony.

From an IPNB perspective, healing trauma means breaking this cycle of impaired integration in body and in relationships and moving toward healthy integration which accesses a more receptive state, one that facilitates inner clarity and opens to connection with individuals in more flexible and rewarding ways. By focusing on the Nine Domains of Integration–relationships, memory, narrative, states, bilateral, vertical, temporal, identity and consciousness–a comprehensive approach to cultivating resolution as a deep journey toward integration allows unresolved traumatic states to be healed and post traumatic growth to flourish as resilience is strengthened.

Why should you consider taking this course?

This course is an opportunity to learn from a master clinician about one of the most enduring mental health issues, unresolved trauma, and explore practical ways to recover, heal, and grow strength by moving integratively through it. In this course, you will learn about the neurobiology of trauma and the systems of the brain that affect how we experience its unresolved states and then move deeply toward resolution and growth. Dan Siegel grounds his teachings in poignant and clinically insightful examples that bring to life the IPNB concepts he discusses. You’ll learn in-depth and in practical ways about the Nine Domains of Integration and how you can harness the power and potential of these to move yourself and others back into healthy states of integration and thriving.

Course Overview

How can we heal from trauma?

Using clinical examples from his four decades of medical practice and scientific synthesis of research on how trauma affects the mind, master teacher Dan Siegel will teach you an approach to healing based on the principles of Interpersonal Neurobiology (“IPNB”). In this course, you’ll learn about how trauma disrupts the healthy integration with the brain, the body, and our relationships as it sets the mind for unresolved states toward chaos and rigidity. Then, using the Nine Domains of Integration, Dan will give you practical exercises and insights into how we can move ourselves and others back into healthy connection with ourselves and the world around us through careful ways of differentiating and linking the distinct but interactive domains in our lives. This in-depth course will be valuable for clinicians and highly motivated learners alike.
