Food is medicine and we, as a nation, are getting sicker and more obese as the years progress. Healthcare practitioners owe it to their patients to fully understand the tenets of functional nutrition, metabolism, gut health, and hormone balance when it comes to identifying imbalances and recommending prioritized and personalized recommendations for each patient. Functional nutrition (and medicine) incorporates a root cause approach with oxidative stress and inflammation driving dysfunction and disease. It’s important for our health care professionals to understand what this means, how to identify its presence, and how to manage it holistically via nutrition and lifestyle protocols. We also cover the importance of gut health, insulin regulation, and mitochondrial health in overall health and disease prevention.
